Local Champions of Manufacturing Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Fishers, Indiana February 21, 2013 — Shelton Machinery, a family-owned distributor and total solutions partner for the manufacturing industries of Indiana and Kentucky, will celebrate 25 years of success on February 22. Established by Jim Shelton in 1988, Shelton Machinery represents large international companies such as Mazak Corporation, Hyd-Mech and Zagar Inc. from its state-of-the-art facility in Fishers, Ind. Today, the company is co-owned by Jim Shelton, his son Nick Shelton and Jeff Tucker.

As a total solutions provider, Shelton Machinery supplies advanced manufacturing technology from industry leaders, as well as offers support through preventive maintenance, service and parts programs, application expertise and training. Through The Shelton Learning Center, skilled applications and service engineers work directly with manufacturers to create solutions for their unique manufacturing challenges.

"When manufacturing was struggling in 2008 and 2009, Shelton was looking for a way to strengthen customer support," said Jim Shelton, president of Shelton Machinery. "During that time, we created The Shelton Learning Center as a means to provide our customers with information centered around bolstering their productivity, from the shop floor to the corner office. These training sessions continue today and cover a wide range of topics from manufacturing best practices to Occupational Safety & Health Administration overview to succession planning."

Shelton Machinery is equally invested in ensuring the future health of Indiana's manufacturing industry. The company is a leader in student education, serving as an A+ partner with Conexus Indiana. An initiative dedicated to advanced manufacturing issues such as workforce development, Conexus Indiana strategically focuses on issues key to Indiana's manufacturing and logistics sectors.

As an A+ partner, Shelton Machinery visits Indiana high schools, promoting local manufacturing jobs and the corresponding degree training they require. As part of this program, Nick Shelton recently taught a technology class at Crawfordsville High School. Students in attendance experienced firsthand automation in manufacturing through a field trip to one of Shelton's customers.

"With our A+ partnership with Conexus, Shelton Machinery is able to work with local high schools and increase our industry's exposure to its future workforce," Nick Shelton said. "As a company, we have enjoyed interacting with students and introducing them to the advanced technology in today's manufacturing. We hope other small businesses in Indiana's manufacturing industry will join the movement of introducing young Hoosiers to our market."
